Founded in 2015, the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA) is a statewide organization that advances the economic well-being of Black businesses, organizations, and people through advocacy, business and leadership development, and strategic partnerships. WHAT YOU’LL DO
Black economic development will require immediate and long-term community action, leadership, and outside-the-box solutions. BECMA is looking for an experienced Development Coordinator who is passionate about our organization’s mission and closing the racial wealth gap. In close partnership with the President and CEO, the incoming Development Coordinator will play a critical role in ensuring that BECMA has sufficient resources to achieve our mission and has the development infrastructure needed to sustain the organization in supporting the Black community across the Commonwealth. He/She will support development efforts across all programmatic and departmental areas. The Development Coordinator will strategically engage new partners and sponsors to support our vision and to enable our capacity to achieve our goals. This position will also be involved in development planning as the organization grows.
This individual should be an exceptional communicator, have frontline fundraising experience with major donors, superior relationship-building skills, and comfort with development tools. Working closely with the President & CEO and BECMA’s Senior Leadership Team, this person will be responsible for the following activities:
Salesforce Database Management
- Ensure information is updated in a timely and accurate manner to assist with prospecting, acknowledgements and stewardship
- Maintain profiles and accounts on key donors
- Ensure systems within Salesforce are working efficiently
- Produce regular and ad hoc development reports which measure results, impact and performance
Prospect Research & Annual Planning
- Research potential new sources of funding including foundations, high net worth individuals, corporations and others
- Develop BECMA’s annual fundraising plan, in partnership with the President and CEO
Relationship Building
- Work in partnership with the President and CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to develop strategies to engage new friends and deepen relationships with existing supporters
- Support the execution of activities that will allow BECMA to build and strengthen relationships with foundations, corporate partners, sponsors and individual donors through a set of identified cultivation and stewardship activities
Grant Writing
- Coordinate with BECMA staff, partners or external resources in writing, editing and submitting successful grant proposals in a timely manner, as well as pitches for funding opportunities, and donor engagement materials
Gift Processing and Acknowledgements
- Process all monetary gifts as they are received and send acknowledgements within 2-5 business days
Events & Special Campaigns
- Coordinate with Events team to secure corporate sponsorship for fundraising events
- Collaborate with Marketing team to develop and execute on online fundraising appeals and to maintain a digital presence in support of advancing fundraising goals
WHO YOU ARE
BECMA recruits self-organized and self-motivated people who are passionate about transformative leadership and solving problems, and who have a strong commitment to preserving, protecting, and advocating for Black lives. A successful candidate will possess most or all of the following:
Experience
- 3+ years of experience in a development position(s), preferably at a non-profit
- A strong affinity with our mission of racial justice and eliminating the wealth gap
- Proven skills in developing and implementing business development strategies
- A proven record of, executing fundraising campaigns, building relationships with major donors and individual funders, and closing major gifts
Knowledge
- Experienced Salesforce user
- Fundraising campaign & relationship building best practices
Skills
- Strong relationship building skills
- Excellent oral and written presentation skills
- Comfortable at data analytics and research
- Proficient in presentation tools such as Powerpoint, Canva or others
Abilities
- Ability to collaborate with the President & CEO on developing BECMA’s annual development plan, growth strategies and budgeting
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to a changing work environment and schedule
- Ability to learn new software and databases
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines with efficiency and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and with professional discretion
WHAT YOU’LL GET
This role requires occasional morning and evening event commitments outside of the standard 9-5 office hours. The position will also require periodic travel within Massachusetts. You are not expected to work from the office during the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who do wish to work from the BECMA office are expected to be fully vaccinated or to provide a negative COVID-19 test prior to each visit. The job is posted as a 40 hour per week role but 32 hours is possible for the right candidate. You will receive:
