Segun Idowu, president and CEO of the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, shared the organization’s policy agenda for the 2021 legislative session. The group’s priorities include support for bills that would establish a $10 million grant program for minority-owned startup companies; expand opportunities for minority- and women-owned businesses in public construction; and require the submission of wage data to a public database.
“Many of the socioeconomic and political problems that we still face are the result of deeply embedded inequities that the commonwealth and our country created and continue to perpetuate,” Idowu said. “Racial injustice was drafted, debated, voted on and codified by law, in part by state legislatures across this nation, including Massachusetts. It can be dismantled, therefore, by law.”
